Elizabeth Blackadder & John Houston were two hugely influential Scottish artists, and it was a real honour to be asked to design such a poignant exhibition catalogue for the Royal Scottish Academy. The exhibition gives a full and transparent look at the two artists' lives and their artwork throughout their careers. The catalogue made a visual nod to this openness and transparency through our choice of materials — we used transparent paper to pepper spreads and to wrap around the publication. The layout was delicate but also playful at times, with bold colours mimicking both artists' work and approaches.
Josh translated a complex set of requirements for the design scheme for our exhibition into an elegant proposal which enhanced the content of the project. Josh’s communication throughout the project was excellent and he went above and beyond to make sure that we had an elegant, sleek design scheme completed within tight time constraints.
